AI Notepad

What is the AI Notepad?

The AI Notepad is a working space on the Mac where you can think through a matter with an AI assistant, attach context from your records, and keep the conversation with the work.

The AI Notepad is a working space in the Mac app for thinking through a problem with an AI assistant, with your own records available as context.

Mac only. The AI Notepad is part of the Mac app. The iPhone and Apple Watch apps have no AI surface.

#Before you begin

You must choose an AI provider first — the Notepad does nothing until one is configured. See Choose and configure an AI provider.

#What you can do

  • Hold a conversation. Start a chat, give it a title, and come back to it.
  • Link it to your work. A chat can be linked to a client or a matter so the conversation sits with the work it belongs to, rather than floating loose.
  • Attach context. Bring in material you want the assistant to consider, and drop files onto the workspace to attach them.
  • Run slash commands. Type / to pick from the available commands instead of writing the same instruction each time.
  • Reuse a setup. Save a working context and apply it again later, or dismiss it when you want a clean general workspace.
  • Keep what is useful. Copy a response, or append it to the notes on the linked client or matter — as an explicit action you take, not something that happens automatically.

#What to watch for

  • The assistant can be wrong. Beagle says so on screen: AI can make mistakes. Check anything that matters against the underlying record.
  • Nothing is written for you. Appending a response to notes is a step you choose. See AI output in Beagle is advisory.
  • Your provider choice decides where the conversation goes. With a local provider the exchange stays on your Mac; with a cloud provider it is sent to that company. See The external AI disclosure.
  • The Notepad is not legal research. It does not look up cases or statutes and does not tell you what the law is.
