Sync keeps the same firm's records available on the devices signed in to it. Not everything in Beagle syncs, and the differences are deliberate.
#Sync requires three things
Sync runs only when all of these are true:
- A backend is configured.
- You are signed in and have a firm selected.
- Your local data has been backfilled.
If any of them is not true, Beagle works entirely locally on that device. Your data is not lost — it is on the Mac, and it is not going anywhere else.
#What synchronises fully
These records are available on the firm's authorised devices:

#What synchronises only its metadata
For these, the record's identity, status and workflow metadata reach other devices, but the content stays on the device that produced it:
- AI run records
- AI suggestion records
- Generated drafts
- Matter Intelligence results
- OCR corrections
So another device can see that a draft was generated and what its status is, but the draft's text stays on the Mac that generated it.
This is a third state, and it is worth being precise about, because calling it either "synced" or "local only" would mislead you in one direction or the other.

Text extracted from documents by OCR is also local to the device that extracted it — it is deliberately excluded from what is sent.
#A note on fields
An entity that synchronises does not necessarily send every one of its fields. Coverage is tracked and tested at field level, but if you are relying on one specific field being present on a second device, confirm it rather than assuming it.
#What the iPhone gets
The iPhone companion carries the practice-management records above. It has no AI features, no conflict checking, no trust ledger, no OCR and no document workflow — those are Mac-only, so there is nothing for it to receive.
